Hello, I’m Dee, a breast cancer survivor, wife, and mother with a passion for running, reading, and exploring the world. My journey as a breast cancer survivor was marked by a profound fear of sharing my personal story. During that challenging time, I felt isolated and hesitant to burden my mother, who was also battling breast cancer, and my husband, who was deeply engaged in the realm of professional basketball.
I believed it would be inconvenient to share my struggles with my loved ones as they were immersed in their own busy lives. However, my family’s history with breast cancer, spanning generations with my grandmother and mother, fueled my determination to overcome my fear.
Knowledge and support from others became my strength and armor. I took small steps toward empowerment. Amid adversity, unexpected silver linings were uncovered. The opportunity to rebuild my priorities and forge new connections was discovered. Sporadic thoughts of ways to help others dealing with similar diagnoses and prognoses, like mine, began to emerge.
Today, I’m dedicated to encouraging others with crucial preventative information, such as yearly mammogram screenings and participation in healthy activities. I also believe in the power of active mentorship and becoming part of a support group.
I would be remiss not to admit that I am a bit apprehensive about disclosing and publicizing my diagnosis as opposed to the ease of remaining silent. Thus, I now embrace Fridays as a day of fearlessness, dedicated to spreading knowledge, encouragement, strength, and sharing journeys to inspire others.
I marvel at the intricate tapestry of my journey, which began as a mere thread but has transformed into a rich story- a residence for self-care and personal growth. The scars I bear aren’t just a testament to my battles; they symbolize my personal victory.
Join me as I transform from the fear of the unknown to cultivating a renaissance mindset of F.E.A.R. (Feeling Excited and Ready) to share. I want everyone to feel assured in finding encouragement, strength, fortitude, and support in their breast cancer journey. Together, we can break the silence and encourage others to share their stories, fostering a sense of unity and empowerment.
